Chapters 6 & 7 from Palm webOS are now available

Two more chapters are out for Palm webOS. Chapter 6 is titled “Data” and chapter 7 is about “Application Services”.

Another new launch date is coming up : June 5/6/7. If you add the rumor about each Sprint store receiving a pre for training too…this could be for real.

Palm webOS: Chapters 4 & 5 released

According to O’Reilly, the next 2 chapters are out for Palm webOS. Chapter 4 is on “Dialogs and Menus” and chapter 5 is on “Advanced Widgets”.

The possible launch dates of May 17, Jun 7 , (depending on who you ask) … are coming quickly, so it seems they are burning the mid-night oil too.

I understand this chapter has a lot of information about Mojo widgets.

From the PalmWebOsBlog :

“The heart of the Mojo framework is the user interface feature set, delivered in a collection of dynamic widgets. Mojo widgets are configured with sceneController methods and custom CSS styles and managed through Mojo events, briefly introduced to you in Chapter 1.

With widgets you can build static and dynamic lists, or employ various button controls, selectors, and text fields. You can choose from several kinds of menus and dialogs, and employ sophisticated pickers and viewers each of which specialize in handling different types of data. There’s a common model for declaring, instantiating and managing your widgets, which makes it easy to learn and simple to code for your applications.”

This sounds like a chapter with a lot of juicy information.

I saw that O’Reilly has published chapter 3 of Palm webOS: Developing Applications in JavaScript using the Palm Mojo Framework“. This chapter is on widgets.

Sprint adds Palm WebOS landing page

This looks like a good sign. I think Sprint is trying to court WebOS developers. There isn’t a lot there right now, but you have to start somewhere.

According to the latest news from the Palm Developer Network News, the demand for the Mojo SKD early access program has been very popular. Palm let the first batch of developers get a copy last week, and another batch is getting theirs next week.

I was not one of the lucky few…were you?

Palm early access program for Mojo SDK

It looks like Palm is now releasing the Palm Mojo SDK to a luck select few. You will need to go to Palm and apply for admission into this program. Here is the link to the program FAQ.

I guess they are in alpha test mode for the SDK. Hopefully they will be releasing it to the general public soon.

Second chapter of “Palm webOS: Developing Applications…” is now available

There is a new chapter available from O’Reilly, but you have to have access to Safari Books Online. The chapter is titled “Application Basics” and it shows you how to create applications and talks about programming in the webOS environment.

webOS Eclipse Plug-in Released

The people over at PalmPreSchool have released a plug-in to give user a taste of the webOS environment. You need to be using the Eclipse IDE to play with it. You won’t be able to run anything, but you can create sample application and get a feel for the environment.

As stated earlier, it looks like the official SDK will run with Eclipse, so maybe this is a good time to get started on learning the ins and outs of the Eclipse IDE.
