Developing Applications for webOS webcast is now available

O’Reilly has posted links for the webOS webcast from Wednesday.

You can see it at either the O’Reilly’s webcast page or their YouTube channel.

See the complete post from the Palm Developer Network News.

O’Reilly Webcast (part 2)

Change of plans. I was able to attend the O’Reilly Webcast.  They demostrated some neat stuff, but you can’t get a lot out of a 1 hour presentation.

Still no word on a release date, but they did mention preDevCamp!

A video of the presentation will be available in a day or two. I will post the link when it is available.

You may want to check out the article over at precentral.net for more details about the webcast.

More Palm Pre’s seen in the wild

We still don’t have a date for the Palm Pre release, but the phone keeps turning up in more places.

Two weeks ago it was spotted at the TED conference and last week it was spotted at the Mobile World Congress. This week it was seen at an Oscars event. According to engadget, the attending stars at the Independent Spirit Awards would receive a swag bag that contained a Palm Pre.

The key item here is that we are seeing it being used by people that are not directly tied to Palm. Do all these sitings mean we are close to a general release to the public?

Getting the word out

John from Refresh Philly got back to me about getting the word out. He said they would be happy to make an announcement at the next  Refresh Philly meeting.

Thanks John!

He also suggested contacting :

The request have been sent. Do you know of any other Philadelphia organization we could contact to help get the word out?

O’Reilly Webcast: Developing Applications for webOS: A Preview

The webOS preview is on Wednesday at 1:00 PM Eastern. It will be hosted by Mitch Allen, Palm’s Software CTO and a member of the Palm webOS™ design team.

Hopefully they will have more information about the actual release of the SDK.

If you are like me, and can’t attend the webcast, O’Reilly will be recording the webcast and making it available within a week. If you register, you will be notified when the recording is available.

See link for all the details.

Looking for local college/university contacts for preDevCamp

I am still trying to get the word out.

I have sent emails to some of the local colleges asking them if they would help us get the word out about preDevCamp – Philadelphia.

I have only heard back from one and they will help. (Thanks Albright College!)

Does anyone have better contact information for local colleges/universities other than the “Computer Science”, “Information Technology”, … department head email address?

Visit to Indyhall

I met with Alex on Wednesday at Indyhall. What a neat place. I think it would work out great for the preDevCamp.

I talked to Alex about getting the word out on preDevCamp – Philadelphia. He had a few suggestions :

Thanks Alex, I will contact them. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Developing On The Pre Will Be A Breeze

More news from the MWC.

According to the article at cnn.com, Ed Colligan (the CEO at Palm)

“Palm believes it has made developing applications for its new Pre smart phone easy enough to attract a broad range of developers.”

I wish they could let more developers in on the details.  Here is a link to the article.

Google’s Vic Gondotra demonstrated Google Maps running as a web app on the Palm pre using HTML5.  It seems to run well on the device. See link.

Palm Pre will launch on 5/10/09…another rumor?

According to evdoinfo.com, the Palm Pre will launch on 5/10/09 (Sunday). No pricing information was available.

There are no details in the article about the source, but I did find this reference in the evdoinfo forums from Alex, a Site Admin:

“we used a highly sophisticated CDMA algorithm applied to the many releases we’ve found from Sprint and Palm about the Pre.

we combined that with information we’ve gleaned from our EVDO tarot cards and Rev-A Crystal Ball that we’re not allowed to show pictures of.

regardless of what anyone thinks… we stand by our announcement, and of course reserve the right to amend it as necessary since we are dealing with a cellular carrier — who has in the past said one thing and meant another and another.”

If the date is correct, then preDevCamp will be the following weekend, 5/16-17.

Some news about Mojo release date?

This is from an article over at precentral.net titled “Palm Pre Eyes-On, Plus Plenty of Pre Questions Answered”:

…As for when that SDK will actually get released in full, Palm is hedging a bit on their initial estimate that it would be available at the same time that the Pre launches.  They’re expecting it to “lag a bit” after the launch, which is a good news/bad news sort of thing.  Good news that Palm is pressing hard to launch the Pre as soon as possible, bad news that the SDK won’t be available on launch day…

See precentral.net for the complete article.

I was (still) hoping to get my hands on the SDK first. It would be nice to play with the emulator and have some time to figure everything out before preDevCamp.

This could affect the preDevCamp date too: the SDK may not be out 1 week after the Palm Pre release date .

We will have to wait for a confirmation from Palm.
